Hattiesburg, MS - Southern Miss research was published in the Feb 22 edition of Science.
The article mentions Dr. Sabine Heinhorst from USM's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, along with researchers from UCLA, DOE Joint Genome Institute, University and California Berkley.
The research identified specific proteins that play a key role in how the carboxysome forms. The carboxysome is a microcomponenet which is believed to be present in a wide variety of pathogens including bacteria.
