Noetic supports growth of biomedical start up companies
Noetic Technologies, Inc., the marketing and commercialization arm of the University of Southern Mississippi, is helping to guide a new breed of student through the process of starting up their own biotech company.
Thanks to a National Science Foundation IGERT(Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship) Grant, students at The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Polymers and High Performance Materials and students from the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at The University of Mississippi have joined forces to identify market opportunities and create products and businesses at the interface of the two disciplines.
“Programs like the IGERT are key in creating the entrepreneurial spirit that the University strives to achieve”, says Les Goff, president of Noetic and member of the program’s Business Overview Team. He believes the entrepreneurial training that is part of the program will, at a minimum, produce students with exceptional product development skills primed for industry jobs. “However, the real excitement is in mentoring students who have a desire to create the skill sets required to run their own companies. All of the Noetic have worked in industry and have experience in running a business. This puts us in a unique position to help these students.
